Newborn Care

Our midwives provide well baby care through the 28 days, seeing you and your baby together in tandem.

What to Expect Immediately After Birth:

  • Your baby will have skin-to-skin contact with you

  • We practice delayed cord clamping and cutting as standard practice

  • Our staff will respect and prioritize family bonding during the Golden Hour

  • Initial newborn assessments will be done while your baby is in your arms

  • All newborn exams and routine procedures will be performed when you indicate that you are ready

  • Your new baby will stay in the birth room with you during your entire stay

  • Our staff will always ask permission before touching your baby



Exams and Procedures for Newborns:

  • Andaluz midwives perform comprehensive head-to-toe newborn exams after birth to ensure your baby is healthy and thriving

  • Newborn exams can be done while the baby is in your arms or right by your side

  • Our staff recognizes that each newborn is a conscious being, requiring gentle touch and awareness

  • We offer standard newborn interventions, including antibiotic eye ointment, newborn metabolic screenings, and Vitamin K injections

  • We offer newborn metabolic screening and hearing screenings

  • We fully support your right to make decisions regarding your newborn’s care, and our midwives will provide information about the risks and benefits of any intervention


Our Typical Well-Baby Visit Schedule:

  • 24-48 hour home visit

  • 1 week

  • 2 weeks

  • 4 weeks



We also offer in-house lactation support with a board certified lactation consultant for breastfeeding assistance.
