Andaluz Midwives are here for you for all phases of life

Many people chose to have their maternity care under the guidance of midwives because they love the midwifery model of care.

The midwifery model is known for it’s slower pace and personal touch.

Midwives believe in building a partnership with their clients through conversation and informed choice decision making.

Midwives respect bodily autonomy and are gentle and respectful with their touch, always asking consent.

Andaluz’s Certified Nurse Midwives can provide care that is compassionate and trauma-informed for many phases of life—not just pregnancy and birth!

Our Care at Andaluz Includes:

  • Well-Body Care: Our midwives provide regular well-body gynecological checkups, often called an annual exam, including any necessary screenings and lab work.

  • Health Screenings: We offer health screenings, such as Pap smears and breast exams. We can also provide testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.

  • Contraception: Our midwives can provide counseling and prescriptions for birth control. We can insert or remove IUDs, and can fit you for a diaphragm.

  • Preconception Care: If you are planning on getting pregnant in the near future, you can book an appointment for preconception counseling to discuss things like nutrition, menstrual health, and current medications you may be taking. Preconception care can increase your chances for having a healthy baby.

  • Miscarriage Care and Counseling: If you experience a miscarriage, our midwives can provide you with compassionate care to manage the both the medical and emotional aspects of pregnancy loss. They can counsel you about your options for either actively managing a miscarriage with medication, or taking an expectant approach to allow your body to pass the miscarriage without intervention. They can also provide counseling to help you decide when to try to conceive again.

  • Ultrasounds: We can book appointment for ultrasounds for many gynecological issues, including miscarriage management and confirming and dating early pregnancies.

What to Expect at Your Visits:

  • All of our appointments are held at our Portland birth center with amenities to help you feel comfortable and at ease including:

    • Complimentary tea and coffee

    • A homelike setting that doesn’t feel clinical

    • Real, soft beds

    • Cotton robes for appointment that require you to undress

  • Visitors are welcome to accompany you, including your partner and children

  • Most visits last about 45 minutes

  • Your midwife will take time to get to know you and understand your needs

  • Your midwife will take time to answer your questions and share information in the spirit of mutual respect

  • All care options are discussed in-depth with a thorough risk/benefit analysis.

  • Consent will be asked before touching your body, and all procedures will be explained step by step
