This class is open to all people in the Portland area who are planning an out-of-hospital birth, and for all Andaluz clients. It can be taken at any point in pregnancy. It covers what to expect if your birth requires intervention, or if need to transfer to the hospital for care either before, during, or after your birth.
While our midwives do all that they can to support our client’s desire for an out-of-hospital birth, some hospitals transfers are necessary, and we want to help our clients know what to expect if the decision is made to go to the hospital.
This class covers:
Interventions available at the birth center and when they may be utilized
Equipment and medications available at the birth center
Common reasons for transfers into hospital care
The shared decision-making process
What to expect at the hospital
Risks and benefits of common hospital procedures, like epidurals and Pitocin augmentation
This is a free class. Registration includes 1 pregnant client + support partner (doulas may also attend with their clients!).
